HydraBoost® is a premium quality, highly palatable electrolyte supplement developed for equine athletes. Electrolytes are substances that maintain the proper fluid balance within your horse’s body and play a vital role in muscle and nerve activity. Sodium, chloride, potassium, and magnesium are the crucial components in HydraBoost. Sweating is a common way in which a horse can lose electrolytes. The effects of electrolyte loss are dehydration, muscle stiffness, lethargy, and colic-like symptoms.

Electrolytes should be administered to a horse before, during, and after heavy sweating occurs. Horses in hard work will need regular supplementation with electrolytes to ensure adequate water intake so they maintain a healthy fluid balance. Horses that consume a correctly formulated electrolyte supplement generally recover from exercise sooner, begin eating in a shorter time after exertion, and therefore are physically prepared for training or competition more rapidly.

In order to properly feed HydraBoost it is important to be able to properly estimate the amount of sweat loss suffered by the horse. The amount of sweat loss will depend on a number of factors such as duration and intensity of exercise, temperature, and humidity. In general, horses exercising at low intensity (7-11 miles/hr) will lose between 1 1/2 gallons to 3 gallons of sweat per hour. During higher-intensity exercise (19-22 miles/hr), sweat loss levels reach as high as 4 gallons per hour.
